Insulin and Inflammation

Controlling insulin levels throughout the day will also help control silent inflammation throughout the body.  Controlling insulin is the ultimate goal for anyone trying to lose body fat and increase their fitness level.  The Zone Diet, Paleo Diet, etc.  all work on the premiss of keeping the spikes of glucose to a minimum and keeping insulin release to a steady level.  Insulin is the “storage” hormone that tells the body to transport nutrients into our cells.  If we produce too much insulin we start to become what is called insulin resistant which is when our cells start to respond less and less to insulin thus our pancreas has to make more and more in order for “storage” to occur.  Excess insulin is the cause of much of our silent inflammation and assisting in such diseases as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.  Following the Zone protocol helps combat the inflammation and insulin problem at the same time.
